Bruce Hoffman joined and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964-1967.

Bruce was a Public Defender from 1967-1993. He then became the Head of the Alternate Public Defender Office in Los Angeles County from 1993-2002. He is currently retired from that position. Bruce serves on the Mental Health America Board and has been a member of the MHA board for almost seven years now. He was the Chairman of the MHA Board in 2005.

He is also involved with Friends Outside and has been part of the their Advisory Board since 2002.
